Early Pregnancy Scan
You can visit Cocoon for an early pregnancy scan from just six weeks gestation.
Finding out you are pregnant is an exciting time for many, but we understand it can also feel unsettling, with lots of families keen to know how the pregnancy is progressing after an initial positive test. Your appointment won’t be rushed and there will be plenty of time to ask any questions you might be holding.
There’s nothing you need to prepare for your ultrasound examination, but please remember to arrive with a full bladder. We also ask that you don’t arrive more than five minutes before your appointment time - this is to ensure the privacy and comfort of all our clients.
Appointment Length: 30 minutes

Our experienced sonographers will consult with you to understand your journey so far, before performing an early reassurance scan to:
Confirm your pregnancy
Monitor and visualise your baby’s heartbeat
Check if your pregnancy is single or multiple
Assess the health of your ovaries and pelvic area
Following the scan, we’ll check in to make sure you’re clear on everything, before providing you with:
4 printed photographs to take home
A USB containing all images captured
A digital copy of your scan report
We always try to perform our ultrasound examinations trans-abdominally (over the top of your tummy) in the first instance. However, due to the nature of very early pregnancy, it can sometimes be difficult to check everything is progressing as expected. In such cases, we will offer you a trans-vaginal (internal) scan, which will enable us to have a much better visual on your baby. This is completely optional and there will be a trained chaperone available, if required.
Please note that in early pregnancy, it can be very difficult to see your baby on a scan. This could be because it’s just a little too early, or it could be a sign that your baby isn’t growing as we would expect. It could also be an indication of an ectopic pregnancy. In these cases we’ll work with you on a plan, which may include a complimentary rescan here at Cocoon, or referral to the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU). It’s very important that you seek medical advice if you are experiencing any discomfort or bleeding in early pregnancy. More information is available in our terms and conditions, which you can find here.
