Unhurried. Expert. On Your Terms.

Sometimes you need a proper conversation with a doctor. Not a rushed seven-minute NHS appointment where you have to pick just one thing to talk about — a real, focused consultation where you can ask the questions you've been putting off, explore a concern you can't quite name, or get a thorough review of your health. Our private GP service offers 20-minute appointments with a qualified, experienced physician. We're here for the appointments that deserve more time, more thought, and more care.

What We Are (And Aren't)

Our GP service is a non-acute, preventative and consultative service. We are not a walk-in centre or emergency clinic. We are not able to help if you:

  • Are experiencing a medical emergency — please call 999
  • Have symptoms that need same-day urgent assessment
  • Require emergency prescriptions or controlled substances
  • Need acute or immediate mental health intervention
  • If you are unsure whether your concern is appropriate for a Cocoon GP appointment, please contact us before booking and we will be happy to advise.

What To Expect

1

Before Your Appointment

Once you've booked, you'll receive a short pre-consultation form. This helps your GP prepare - so that your 20 minutes are spent on what matters, not admin.

2

During Your Appointment

Your appointment takes place in our calm, private consultation room at Cocoon Harrogate. Your GP will take the time to understand your health history, discuss your concerns thoroughly, and - where relevant - examine you, review any existing results or referral letters you bring, and recommend next steps. If you've had recent blood tests or diagnostics at Cocoon, your GP will be able to review those results in context, as part of your clinical picture.

3

After Your Appointment

You'll receive a written summary of your consultation, including any recommendations, referrals, or follow-up actions. If your GP recommends further investigation - whether additional blood tests, imaging, or specialist referral - we can facilitate that through Cocoon or your NHS pathway, depending on your preference.

Dr. Claire Seddon - GP

Claire is a fully qualified and experienced GMC-registered GP who brings both clinical rigour and genuine warmth to every appointment. Having worked extensively across NHS and private practice, she understands that what people often need most is time - time to be heard, time to think clearly about their health, and time to make informed decisions. Claire is experienced in a wide range of general health concerns, with a particular interest in women's health, hormonal conditions, preventative medicine, and the management of complex or long-standing health needs. At Cocoon, she is supported by Dr Adam Culverwell, our Medical Director, who provides clinical oversight and governance across all of Cocoon's diagnostic and medical services.

FAQs

Your Questions Answered

No - and that's by design. Your NHS GP is there for acute care, emergencies, and the enormous breadth of the population's immediate health needs. Our GP service is a private, complementary option for people who want more time, more focus, and more continuity. It is not a replacement for your NHS care, and we would always encourage you to maintain your NHS registration.

In some circumstances, yes. Our GP can prescribe where it is clinically appropriate and within the scope of our service. However, we are unable to prescribe controlled drugs, and we are not set up to provide ongoing repeat prescriptions. If you require long-term prescription management, your NHS GP or a private GP with full continuing care provision would be more appropriate.

Yes. If your GP recommends a specialist referral, we can provide a private referral letter. If you prefer to be referred via the NHS, we can provide documentation to support your NHS GP in making that referral.

It's helpful to bring any recent test results, letters from specialists, or a list of current medications if you have them. Your pre-consultation form will prompt you on this. If you've had recent diagnostics at Cocoon, your GP will already have access to those results.

We offer pre-bookable appointments only. If you require urgent medical attention, please contact your NHS GP, call 111, or — in an emergency — call 999. Cocoon is not an urgent care or walk-in service.

Our GP can discuss mental health concerns and provide an initial assessment, and can refer you to appropriate support — whether that is NHS IAPT, a private therapist, or a psychiatrist. We also offer talking therapy and coaching services through our Soul Services team at Cocoon, which may be a helpful complement to GP care.

Yes. Cocoon Harrogate is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and social care in England. You can view our registration at cqc.org.uk or find the CQC link in our website footer.

Your written consultation summary will include clear guidance on next steps and what to do if your symptoms change. If you have a concern after your appointment, please contact us directly — or, if you need urgent medical advice, contact 111 or your NHS GP.
